By Kathleen Williams

Natural Treatments To Stop Hair Loss

Before you start treating your hair it is very important that you begin to eat a healthy diet, so that your body gets the proper nutrients to promote hair growth. You should also start doing exercise to reduce stress as stress is also a great culprit causing hair loss.

Natural treatments to stop hair loss include:

Raw onion
Simply get an onion from your kitchen and cut it in two halves. Rub the cut side of the raw onion gently on the affected areas of your scalp. Onion is rich in sulphur which helps a lot to heal the skin and stimulates hair follicle production immensely.

Tomato Paste
Tomatoes are an excellent cure for hair loss. Apply tomato pulp extracted from fresh tomatoes to your scalp and leave it on for half an hour and then wash your hair as usual. Regular use of tomato paste on the hair and scalp on weekly basis can really help to stop the hair fall. Tomato paste also acts as a good conditioner for the hair and bring natural shine to the hair.

Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a common home remedy for hair loss as it helps the scalp by healing it and balances the PH level of the scalp while cleaning the pores at the same time. Simply massage the roots of your hair with Aloe Vera extract to stop hair fall. Always extract the juice of fresh Aloe Vera leaves for application on hair and scalp. Apply Aloe Vera regularly for a month and your hair will definitely stop falling.

Henna
Henna is a traditional Indian remedy for promoting hair growth. It acts as a natural conditioner and is excellent alternative for colouring hair too. It helps a great deal to seal the cuticles, and protects the hair against breakage and loss of shine. Apply henna thoroughly on your hair twice a week regularly for a month to prevent your hair from falling.

Egg Yolks
Egg yolks are very effective in treating the follicles and hair loss can be easily treated by application of egg yolks. Take two egg yolks and add 3 tablespoons of sesame or almond oil along with few drops of lemon juice. Mix thoroughly and apply the egg yolk mix on slightly damp hair. Gently massage your scalp with the egg yolk mix for five minutes and wear a shower cap or simply wrap a dry towel. Let the egg yolk mix sit on your hair for 40 to 45 minutes and then wash you hair as usual. Do this twice a week for a month and your hair loss will reduce immensely.

Practice these home remedies to stop hair loss. You can prevent hair loss by following this golden rule. After every hair wash massage your scalp vigorously for 10 to 12 minutes as this helps to stimulate the blood circulation and also strengthens the hair follicles in the scalp.

Natural Hair Loss Remedies… Onion Juice

I know a lot of people who rave on about the wonderful results obtained from onion juice for the loss of hair. It seems to really be a little gem amongst the natural remedies for hair loss and as it’s such a common household ingredient it’s very easy (and cheap) to do regularly. Here i’ve listed all the benefits of the humble onion and it’s juice that makes it great as a hair loss treatment.

The benefits of Onion Juice

  • Onion is a powerful anti-septic that is rich in vitamins A, B and C.
  • It is a potent source of folic acid, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, chromium, iron. The smaller the onions, the more pungent they are.
  • A study has shown that applying onion juice on scalp twice a week for 2 months will cause hair re-growth.
  • High amounts of sulphur in onions make them particularly effective in regenerating hair follicles and stimulating hair regrowth.
  • In addition, naturally-concentrated sulphur compounds have been proven to show additional hair-restoring and even anti-carcinogenic properties.
  • The antibacterial action of onions helps clean the scalp from disease-causing bacteria and fungi.
  • It is effective in treating dandruff, itchy scalp, and excessive sebum production.
  • Since onion juice restores hair follicles and improves scalp circulation, it will help cure alopecia and promote the growth of new, strong hair.

How to use

Onion Juice

Juice or grate the onions. If grating onions then wrap in muslin or similar cloth and wring out juice. Keep juice and discard the pulp.

Tips

To keep the onion juice as fresh and effective as possible, make it in small batches to eliminate storage time and prolonged shelf life.

Do not warm the onion juice on the stove or in a microwave, as heating it can damage the compounds in it that are responsible for hair growth.

Method 1
Apply the undiluted juice to the affected areas of your skin by putting on the gloves and dipping a sterile cotton ball into the onion juice. Apply to the hair loss area. Massage deep into the hair roots but do gently, so as not to cause traction alopecia by pulling on the roots of the hair. Leave on for around 30 mins before shampooing or conditioning hair.

Method 2
Mix onion juice into your conditioner and apply after shampooing hair. Let sit for a minimum of 30 mins with a shower cap on. Rinse hair thoroughly.

If you are suffering from severe hair loss and thinning please do your own research to determine whether or not this treatment may be of benefit to you and talk to a licensed professional. I will no longer be accepting or responding to comments and questions asking me to verify whether this treatment may work for your particular situation. Thank you!

Natural Hair Loss Remedies… Cayenne Pepper

I’ve been doing some research on natural hair loss remedies and came across the healing, stimulating, restorative powers of the humble cayenne pepper. This i thought was a great solution as it’s so easy to obtain and really inexpensive. There’s no ‘smell’ to deal with at all which is great but it is a bit messy but aren’t they all?

So…

Main Active Ingredient in Cayenne Pepper

Capsaicin is the primary active ingredient found in cayenne pepper. This is the key reason cayenne pepper helps prevent hair loss; capsaicin increases IG-F (insulation growth factors), which help hair growth as a result of stimulating hair follicles.

How Cayenne Pepper Helps Prevent Thinning Hair

Inadequate blood flow to the hair follicles results in weak hair roots. This malnutrition makes hair follicles particularly vulnerable to the effects of DHT. When DHT is attached to the hair follicle it is more likely to kill a hair follicle that is unhealthy due to lack of blood flow. This results in thinner more fragile hair and eventually a cessation of hair production, ultimately leading to baldness.

Cayenne pepper increases blood flow to the scalp, resulting in healthy hair follicles and thus thicker, healthier hair. It also speeds up the process of hair growth.

Cayenne Pepper Recipes for Treating Hair Loss

Create a paste made out of 2 teaspoons of cayenne pepper and 2 tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil. Massage this mixture into the scalp, particularly in areas with thinning hair. Leave on the scalp for 20 to 30 minutes, as long as the scalp doesn’t become overly irritated. Rinse thoroughly and follow up with a good conditioner.

Those who prefer to take cayenne pepper internally may do so by putting 1/8-1/2 teaspoon one cup of liquid such as soup, hot tea, or tomato juice. The amount of cayenne pepper can be increased gradually as tolerance to it builds.

Since cayenne pepper is highly irritating it’s important to keep it away from sensitive skin such as eyes and noses. Hands should be thoroughly washed and dried after handling cayenne pepper to avoid irritation.

I tried this out today but used 1 teaspoon cayenne and 1 teaspoon Neem powder to 2 tablespoons of hemp oil (I thought the essential fatty oil would do great). The neem i will discuss in another post but it’s so good i wanted to get it in there some where. It ended being quite runny and not pasty so i didn’t use up the whole mix. Next time i will use 1 tablespoon of oil so it’s thick and i get the full dosage of herbs in the mix. It was slightly tingly which i thought was a good thing and i was very careful to not get any in my eye area. I left it on for about 1/2 hour and then shampooed. It felt really good. My hair felt really good and my scalp hot and ‘worked on’.

I’ll do this once every week for the next month and note the changes i see and feel in my ‘trouble area’ which is the nape for me.
