Delaiah’s Microlocs – 20 Month Update

Hi guys, sorry it’s taken so long to provide an update on Delaiah’s locs. Sometimes life just gets in the way. Anyway…. Here are some pics of Delaiah’s hair compared with what they looked like at 1 year.

The main differences I can see are her ends are tighter and rounder shaped and the locs themselves look much tighter and less frizzy. It also looks like it’s finally stopped shrinking and it’s beginning to ‘hang’. Hopefully this is the beginning of the growth phase of her locs.

As for her loc routine, I’ve relaxed it quite a bit. I wash her hair every 2-4 weeks and retighten every 4-6 weeks. I choose not to use creamy conditioners in her hair so instead opt for moisturising/conditioning shampoos, whichever one I’ve got on hand. At the moment I’m loving ORS Shealicous Cleansing Balm (bought from Tesco), which leaves her locs clean, soft and silky. I spray it every so often with a moisturising mix of Aloe Vera Juice, Peppermint and Witch Hazel waters/distillates, mixed with oils (usually whatever oil mix I have available) and the ratios are half oil to distillates. I just shake it to mix and then spray it on her locs. It’s hydrating and leaves a very light film of oil on the locs to keep it soft and moisturised, without being greasy or heavy.

Delaiah still loves her locs and can’t wait to get more length so she can have more styling options (she styles her own her hair now!).

I’m in the process of editing the update video, so keep an eye out for that on my YouTube Channel in the near future.

That’s it for now.  Until next time.

  1. Thank you for your information. Great Job. You helped me to better understand the process. I wish you were close so I could pay for you to do mine also 😄

  2. Hi….Thank you for doing this video. I have decided to do my daughter’s locs because she has been wanting them for years. I have sista locs and so does my sister and mother. The only question I have is, once you were done installing the locs, how did you apply the loc gel on the ends?

    • Hi Jan. I simply just rubbed a little gel on the ends of the locs and twirled them around my fingers a bit. That way the ends would curl up and not begin to unravel, since the interlocking process made her ends quite straight. It’s not a necessary step that I took with my own Microlocs or my mums. Hope that helps.
